As a photographer, our goal is always to be improving our craft. To do this we need to constantly push ourselves beyond our comfort zone, test new things, and just practice! This is why regular personal shoots are a must. Luckily, Mary found me through my Instagram a while ago, and when I finally had a fitness shoot idea in mind I was able to test with her. Mary is a bikini fitness competitor so she's naturally going to be in great shape and complemented the look I was going for nicely. My idea for the shoot revolved around urban fitness. What athletics could be accomplished around the city, which in this case was downtown Tempe, AZ. The wardrobe we chose to go with was Lululemon which fits nicely with the lifestyle vibe I was going for. Check out the awesome video for a little behind the scenes of us shooting around downtown Tempe. We were lucky enough to have some amazing light and clearly created some magical photos!

Back to the idea of continuously testing my skills. I normally shoot with strobes, but decided I would break out of my comfort zone for this shoot and go all natural light. The choice to do this came down to a few basic reasons. The first being our location(s). We would be moving all around the city, on foot. This made lugging lights around not a viable option. Fast and light was our goal here. The second reason to shoot all natural light was it fit the look I had in mind for the shoot. I wanted it to be very bright and filled with lots of lens flare. The only additional pieces of gear used besides my Canon 6D and choice of 2 lenses, was my Lee Filters hood and 3 stop ND filter. Now, take a look at some of the images from the shoot.
One thing to remember with every photoshoot is, it's a collaboration. I had a great team, between Mary our model and Chloe helping with behind the scenes video and catching the occasional stray hair.
